British Master Success 2015

Dear Swimmers and Parents,

As many of you will already know, Dolphins sent a squad of eight swimmers to compete at the ASA Short Course Masters National Championships at the Ponds Forge sports complex in Sheffield at the end of October. The meet is the largest in the UK in terms of competitor numbers and this year saw a huge entry of over 1200 swimmers from all over the UK including former GB international swimmers and current masters event World Champions.

The eight Dolphin swimmers – Eddie Watson, Robert Bryce, Zoe Grant, Tom Leach, Charlie Watson, Rebecca Bews, Campbell Tough and Kieran Ogg (all of whom train in Gold Squad) made an extremely impressive British masters debut winning a total of 17 medals including medals in every relay event in which we submitted a team as well as nine medals in the individual events. Two National Masters champions were crowned when Eddie took triple Gold in the 50m freestyle in 23.17 (breaking the Dolphin record in the process), 100m freestyle in 51.34 and the 200m freestyle in 1:55.62 whilst Robert took gold in the 50m butterfly in 25.55 (both swimmers competed in the 18-24 year age category). Rebecca also won medals in individual events taking silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze medals in the 100m IM and 50m butterfly. Medals aside the eight swimmers that competed set a total of 19 personal best times over the weekend highlighted by a 100% PB rate achieved by both Campbell and Eddie.

The results achieved by our swimmers are a reflection of the efforts of not just the swimmers themselves but of the whole Dolphin team and the implementation of the USRPT (“Ultra-short Race Pace Training”) training model designed by Professor Brent Rushall and adopted by the club in December 2012. The results prove that our club has made immense progress over the past three years and I have no doubt that we will continue improving more and more in the years to come!
